About Mark

Mark Mitchell
Mark Benton Mitchell was a Splendora High
School class of 1980 graduate. Although a tremendous
high school athlete and published poet, it was on stage
that Mark would make his name.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in drama from Sam Houston State University and began a career in regional theater and industrial film. From there he went on to star in many B movies before accepting roles in such films as
JFK (1991) and 8 Seconds (1994).

Seemingly on the cusp of great things, Mark was killed in an automobile accident shortly after filming 8 Seconds. It was the passion that Mark exhibited in the pursuit of his dreams
that remains with us today.

The Mark Mitchell Foundation was established in
2005 as a non-profit Texas corporation that assists
graduating seniors in their educational pursuits and
facilitates other charitable endeavors in our community.

The foundation is currently sponsoring the Mark Mitchell Scholorship which is open to all Splendora High School seniors who will be attending college or trade school. Please contact your high school counselor for an application. The application deadline is April 15.
